Christmas Film Favourites

One of my favourite things about Christmas is watching Christmas films. When it is cold outside I love nothing more than getting cosy and watching a Christmas film. Over the years I have watched many Christmas films but here is a list of a few of my favourite ones:-
1- The Grinch
The Grinch is one of my most favourite Christmas films so much so that every year for Christmas my mom buys me Grinch Christmas pyjamas. If you haven’t seen already Primark always has really nice Grinch pyjamas. I have always loved watching the Grinch as it is a good feel good film and I usually leave this to watch on Christmas Eve Night.
2- Annabelle’s Wish
Annabelle’s Wish is one of those films that nobody else has ever heard of. It was a film that I was brought one Christmas when I was younger that I loved so much that I make sure that I watch it most years even now. It is a cartoon film about a cow called Annabelle who wants to be a reindeer. It is a super cute film for young children.
3- Home Alone
I think everyone loves to watch home alone at this time of year. Its one of those films that I never actually think about watching but I always find it on TV somewhere and end up watching it. This films also reminds me of my childhood.
4- Miracle on 34th Street
Miracle on 34th Street is the must see film this time of year. I love to watch this film and often watch it more than once. It is the perfect film to put you in the mood for Christmas.
5- The Holiday
The holiday is not always the most typical Christmas film but it is one of those films that I really enjoy watching over the Christmas period because it is very light hearted.
6- Jack Frost
I have watched Jack Frost every year since my sister was brought it one Christmas when we were younger. Even though it starts off really sad; it is still a really great family film to watch.

There are many more Christmas films that I love but these are the ones that I make sure that I watch every year to get me in the Christmas spirit ready for Christmas day.

Grey’s Anatomy Fix

For the last at least 7 years I have been watching Grey’s Anatomy. I think it was my sister who first got me into the show and I haven’t stopped watching it since. This is the only series that I continue to watch and I will always watch the new episodes when they are released in America. All of the other series that I have tried to watch I have given up on them after the first few series apart from prison break. However if prison break did bring out a new series I don’t know how I would feel about that as the last one wasn’t quite as good as the others.
I have always enjoyed watching Grey’s Anatomy and I think this is because when I was younger as at one point I wanted to be a surgeon. Obviously that didn’t happen as I am not very good at science. However watching this show can sometimes make you feel like you could be a surgeon.
My favourite character was always Christina Yang but unfortunately see left a few series back so I think my favourite is now either Alex Karev or Jackson Avery.
Even though some of the story lines feel quite unrealistic you can’t help but enjoy the show because the show is always jam packed with different storylines. Watching new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy is usually my treat on a Friday night for surviving a week of work. So as the new series returned a couple of weeks ago I am going to binge watch them tonight.
If you are looking for a new tv series to watch I would recommend Grey’s Anatomy however there is now 15 series so it could take along time to get through all the episodes.

Weekend Fun

After taking my car to the garage yesterday it is now back with me and all sorted. Of course I ended up having to have extra things done to my car so it did cost a little more than I expected but it is worth it to know my car is safe to drive. On the positive side at least my car is all sorted now and I won’t have to worry about it throughout the winter.
On the evening I went to the cinema with my boyfriend to watch ‘The Meg’. The films is about a group of scientists who encounter a 75 foot long megalodon shark. I wasn’t initially drawn to this film but as my boyfriend wanted to see it I agreed to watch it with him. Surprisingly I quite enjoyed the film. The film is very unrealistic and exaggerated but as we were watching it in the cinema you kind of just go along with the story and it was enjoyable to watch. However if I was watching it at home I don’t know if it would have the same effect.
I feel like everyone has a secret a fear of sharks so you can’t help but relate to the fear when they see the shark and are being chased by it. Overall I enjoyed it but I don’t know if I would rush to see it again.
I haven’t been to the cinema for a while and I had forgot how much I like going. I generally go more in the winter but as the weather has been a bit cooler it was nice to go last night. When I am at home watching a film I am always distracted by other things and never fully pay attention whereas in the cinema you have to pay attention and it kind of acts as an escape from what is going on in your life for a couple of hours.

I am having quite a chilled day today; I popped into town with my sister and sorted a few things out ready for work this week. This afternoon I am going to have a little look at what jobs are available near here and maybe enjoy a podcast or two! I do have a couple of items I want to list on eBay so I may do that as well.

Goodbye Netflix ??

I was listening to a podcast a couple of nights ago, it was one of the joe Rogan podcast’s that I mentioned in a previous blog. In the podcast I was listening to, they were talking about self-improvement..
They discussed how we are spending so much time doing things that aren’t enhancing our lives but that are keeping us in a state of numbness.
The example they used was Netflix, we spend so much time watching so many tv series that we lose essential time that we could have used to improve our lives. This made me realise that if I stopped watching Netflix I could use that time focusing on job hunting, new hobbies and interests that could improve my life. Don’t get me wrong I love a good Netflix series but part of me thought yes what they are saying is right. Spending so much time watching Netflix doesn’t make your life happier in the long run it is just a quick fix when you find a programme that interests you. I am at a point where I am reassessing which direction my life is going in so this has made me contemplate cancelling my Netflix account.
I don’t watch Netflix all the time but I know that if I found a series that I was really into that I would just want to binge watch the whole series. For example if there was a new series of prison break I know I would be straight on that! By binge watching series it can take up so much of my time and yes I enjoy watching the programme but is it enhancing my life in the same way as it would if I read a book, watched a YouTube video or listened to a podcast on a new topic.
I think also because I am in a job role that is pretty similar every day in the tasks that I need to do daily it has kind of become robotic and so when I come home from work I feel that I need to try to develop my knowledge in a different way. I enjoy learning but I am also one who gets stuck in a rut especially in winter with going to work and then coming home and watching Netflix.
So far I haven’t actually deactivated my Netflix account but I am still considering doing so. I haven’t watched a lot of tv at all this week… probably because the weather has been so nice but I have been trying to use my time better by doing activities that can enhance my life.

Brain on Fire

On Saturday evening I decided to watch Brain on Fire on Netflix, I didn’t know a lot about the film but I had an email from Netflix recommending it as something I may like so I thought I would give it ago. I thought it was an great film and really opened my eyes. It has been along time since I have watched a film at home and been fully gripped but I couldn’t stop watching and didn’t really want it to end.

The film is about a young journalist who starts to here voices, become hypersensitive and starts having seizures. As time goes on it only gets worse and she becomes violent and experiences insanity. Everyone around her wonders what is happening because the girl is acting very strange compared to her usual behaviour and even try to blame it on alcohol and partying too much.

The girls have various test such as MRI scans but there is nothing showing abnormally on her test results. Bipolar and schizophrenia is suggested but doctors as the cause for the abnormal behaviour that she is experiencing but her parents are determined that this is not the case. A different doctor takes over her case and they do a brain biopsy because he believes her brain is swollen and inflamed. She has a slow recovery and eventually is able to return to her normal life.

This film really made me think about how limited we are to what treatment are available to us. The NHS is one of the greatest things about England and does amazing things on a daily basis. But we are limited by what treatments are available at any one time and how one doctor may interpret symptoms as being something different to another doctor. Misdiagnosis can happen at any time and there could be others is the world who are diagnosed with mental health disorders and actually it could be something else that is physically affecting a person.

There are always going to be areas in life that we can learn more about and there will be new treatments that are found and that are available in some countries and not others. We are lucky to have so many treatments available to us and to have people trying to find new cures.
