University Advice

A lot of people are currently preparing to start University – many may have already moved into their halls and are in the midst of Freshers Week. I was in this same position in 2010 and I had the best time at University and thought I would write a blog to share experiences and to help you make the most of your university experience.
1 – Make Lots of Friends
My best piece of advice would be to make lots of friends. You will meet a lot of different people during your first few weeks of University who are all in the same position as you they are in. They are in a new place and don’t really know anybody else. Everyone is looking to make new friends so make the most of it and interact with a lot of new people. A lot of the time your first friends will be those who you share you flat with and you will begin to create a safety bond where you can go on nights out with them and feel safe because you already know these people even if it’s only been for a day or two. Making friends with housemates is great but it is important to remember that just because these were you initial friends it doesn’t mean you cant make other friend who you relate to more elsewhere. You may make friends on your course or from an event or night out. In my friendship group I had a mixture of flatmates and course friends a lot of who I am still in contact with now.
2- Take Part in Freshers Week
Freshers week is a great place to meet new friends and get used to your new living environment before starting your degree. You will meet a lot of new people and they will show you around the campus and city you will be living in. There will be lots of events and they will show you what the university has to offer. You can sign up for different sports and groups that are available. Usually there is a lot of freebies too… especially free pizza.
3. Take Advantage of Student Offers
There are a lot of places that will give discounts to students so make the most of it. Take advantage of the freebies and discounts as there are a lot available and you won’t be able to enjoy these once you have finished your studies.
4. Work Hard But Enjoy It
This may seem silly but as much as you are able to enjoy yourself at university you have to remember to prioritise your studies as this is the reason you came to University. Some of my most memorable nights out are from University but I had to make sure that I set aside a certain amount of time each day to do my university work or to prepare for lectures. I had to ensure that essays and assignments were completed on time. Of course I still spent a lot of time watching box sets and getting to know my friends but there still needs to be time for working.
5. Enjoy Yourself
At some point during the time you are at University there will be times where the work load takes over and you feel like you can’t have any time for yourself because you have so much work to do. A lot of the time I would work better after I took a couple of hours away from my computer and relaxed and did something fun. Sometimes having a little break and running off some steam helped me have a new perspective and would actually help me to work better and stop me from having writer’s block.
University was one of the best times of my life and I would say enjoy it as much as you can. Ensure your work is completed but have fun doing it. When you finish University and start your working life you will miss University so make the most of your experience and make many friends and lots of memories. Have fun!

Life Update

Life has been super busy this last week so I haven’t got around to blogging a lot. Well actually the whole of September so far has been pretty busy due to quite a lot of changes going on at the moment but hopefully I can try to get the blogs into a more regular schedule again. I really do enjoy blogging so I need to find more time to fit it in.
I had a really nice day yesterday; I went out for some lunch and went for a nice relaxing walk. I then went a and did a little bit of shopping… I didn’t really need anything but I still had a couple of vouchers to use from my birthday so I spent those in Topshop on a new little bag. My old bag has just broke so it was the perfect excuse to get a new one. I love Topshop as the quality of their products is usually really good. I don’t buy all my clothes from there as it can be quite expensive but I do like to have a few versatile pieces from there which I can mix with clothes from other shops.
After shopping I went to the cinema; there hasn’t been that much in the cinema over the summer that I have really wanted to watch but I really enjoy going to the cinema because the film has my full attention. When you watch a film at home it isn’t the same because I get distracted by so many things and I end up watching parts of a film rather than the whole thing.
I ended up watching ‘King of Thieves’ which I didn’t know that much about beforehand but I knew it had Michael Caine in it so I thought it must be good if he’s in. Generally I have enjoyed films that Michael Caine has been in before so thought I would give it a chance. I actually really enjoyed King of Thieves and would recommend other people watching it. Sometimes picking a film that you haven’t heard about is a better option because you have no expectations so you can’t be disappointed. The film was quite funny and I would watch it again in the future.
I am having another fairly chilled day today doing odd jobs that I need to do before Monday and listening to a few podcasts. I am also hoping to get my hair cut because I have been putting it off for so long but now it has got to a length that is starting to annoy me so I think it’s time to get it sorted out.
Hope you are all having an enjoyable weekend 🙂

Throw Back Thursday – Dublin

Dublin was one of the first weekend breaks that I went on with my boyfriend, I had always wanted to go so we went for a long weekend. Dublin is such a fun loving places that It has a great vibe there. I was so excited to go and it lived up to my expectations.
We stayed in a lovely hotel in the middle of temple bar, it was the perfect location for us as we had easy access to all the areas that we wanted to go too. We used one of those city sights buses to travel around Dublin so we could hop on and off when we wanted to explore somewhere.
We visited the Guinness Factory and Kilmainham Gaol. The Guinness factory was more of my boyfriend’s choice whereas Kilmainham Gaol was where I wanted to do. I love anything crime related so getting to explore the old prison was really fascinating. We had a great time at both places.
On an evening we went and explored the local bars and pub and we were surround by so many talented singers and musicians. There is nothing more that I love than listening to live music.
On our last full day we decided to go on a coach trip to Northern Ireland, it was a spare of the moment trip as we had always wanted to go and see the Giants Causeway so even though the journey was quite long we decided it was worth the trip. Seeing the Giants Causeway was amazing and we even got to see the Dark Hedges from Game of Thrones on the way as well.
Dublin is one of my favourite places that I have visited purely because the energy there is amazing. There is so much to do and see and there is live music around every corner.

Take Bake Tuesday – Fraser Island

A few years ago when I was travelling in Australia I went one of their trips to Fraser Island. I went on my own and it was one of the last trips that I did before coming back to the UK. This was the first trip that I had done in Australia on my own and I was quite nervous because I did have to travel to a different part of Australia for the trip. Travelling around Australia is super easy though as there are loads of coach companies you can use.
The trip to Fraser island consisted of camping on the island with a group of people and driving around to different areas of the island using 4×4’s. I had seen pictures of the island and it looked amazing so I knew it was something I needed to do before I returned home. As I had gone on this trip on my own I was super nervous because I didn’t know anyone but I soon realised there was a lot of people in the same situation as me. We were split into groups of 8 and these were the people who you would be camping with and those who you would share the car with.
We went to the local supermarkets before we left to stock up of food for the next few days and then we set off to find Fraser island. We drove though the forests and along the beach. Our car did at one point get stuck in the sand but luckily we were able to get out. We visited Lake McKenzie, the champagne pools, Lake Wabby and Eli Creek. We also visited Indian Head where the views were amazing and we also stopped by the Maheno Shipwreck. We had BBQ’s on an evening and enjoyed watching the sun set and rise on the beach.
This was a once in a lifetime trip and It was truly an amazing experience and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

5 Places I Would Love To Visit In The Next Few Years…

1. India – Ever since I was little I have wanted to visit India but so far I have not had the chance to go but I am determined to get there in the next couple of years.
2. Bali – When I went to Austraila one of my original plans was to stop of on Bali afterwards before coming back to the UK but for various reasons this never happened so I would really like to go there at some point because everyone I know who has been says how amazing it is.
3. Paris – I went to Paris when I was around 13 with school and visited Disney land Paris and we had a great time. I would really like to go back and see it again now as there are parts that I can’t remember and it would be so much different exploring on your own as there is a lot of places that I would like to see that I never got the chance to see when I went there before.
4. Kenya – Growing up I have always loved safari animals especially elephants and I have always dreamt of going on a African safari. I do hope at some point I get the chance to visit Kenya.
5. Norway – I really would like to go to Norway at some point as I would like to see the Northern lights and get to see Orca whales swimming in the wild. Norway is such a unique place and I would love to go and visit there.

I ended up setting up my own Etsy shop randomly after I had needed to get my sewing machine out ad make a few alterations to some clothes. I end up making little fabric bandana for the dogs in my family. I don’t get the chance to get my sewing machine out that often so when I do I get a little bit carried away and always want to continue to make something. I was struggling to think of ideas so I thought I would give the dog bandanas another go.
I ended up getting carried way and made quite number of them so I decided that I was going to set up a shop on Esty to see if I can make a little extra money. The bandanas are so easy to make and I have quite a lot of brightly coloured materials so they looked really nice. I took one round to my nan’s for her dog and he loves it and now waits for her to put it on in the morning.
I don’t imagine that I will sell very many but it was fun to have something to make and to have a reason to keep sewing. I really enjoy sewing but I do struggle to come up with ideas or I make something and then think I will never actually use it so it seems like a waste.
I have used Esty before when buying gifts as they have so many different unique present ideas but I have never had my own shop on there before. I have to say that it was very easy to set up and before I knew it I was all set up and ready to sell my items.

I am now looking at what else I can make and then sell on there for when I have my next creative moment.

Life Update

I haven’t blogged in the last week mainly because I have been trying to focus on other areas of my life and just haven’t really had the time to blog or I just haven’t really been feeling it. However I am back in full flow now and will be continuing to blog more regularly.
It has been quite a busy week this week at work as we have new managers in so there is a lot of change going on. I have still been looking for new jobs but I am still waiting for an interview to be arranged for a job that would be my dream. I did receive a email last night last to say it will be organised within the next 3 weeks so that made me feel a little more positive with the situation as I was quite worried that I hadn’t heard anything for the last month and a half. I am really hoping to have a new job in the next couple of months as even though I do enjoy my current job I do feel that I need to progress and set myself a new challenge.
This weekend is a fairly chilled one, I have spent quite a bit of time with my sister and we enjoyed a nice walk earlier with her dog. I am off out for a meal with my family tomorrow as it is my parents 30th wedding Anniversary. I then plan to hang out with my boyfriend and have some chilled time before going back to work on Monday. Tonight I am just catching up on bit and bobs that I didn’t get round to doing in the week so a fairly uneventful night planned but it is one that needs to be done so that I can empty my brain of a few jobs that I need to do.

Time to think of some blogs for the week ahead!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend so far 🙂
